A 78-year-old man bought a door guard net from the US company Amazon, but was surprised to receive a 20-gauge shotgun.

Images show the gun was delivered to his home in Colorado (USA) and the tracking code on the package corresponds to the original order. Don Thompson, a former police officer, told CBS News Colorado that he could not understand the error. “I’m totally surprised, they don’t get it wrong very often,” he said.

The mailing label indicates that the firearm was shipped from an Amazon fulfillment center in Aurora, Illinois. However, the company claims that it does not stock or sell this type of product.

Thompson said he was surprised to open the package that arrived at the post office. “Such a mess could have left the firearm in the hands of a criminal or a malicious person,” he said.

As a form of withdrawal, Amazon emailed Don announcing that it regretted what had happened and that an internal investigation had been initiated.

“We are very sorry to hear that we are sending a firearm instead of the screen you purchased. We are conducting an internal investigation from our call center into the errors that led to this shipment to ensure this does not happen to other customers.” message .

After the gun was identified, the Colorado man contacted the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, which went to his home and detained the Stoeger model shotgun. Agency official Jenny Fulton reported that investigations are continuing. “By all indications the shotgun was stolen, but we have just begun our investigation and it seems there is a lot to be resolved,” he said.

The US company is cooperating with Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office investigations. Meanwhile, the multinational gave Thompson $250, equivalent to R$1,327, in addition to returning the value of the protective screen.
