Hippos are more dangerous than it might seem at first glance. You have the idea that they are friendly and social animals, but the reality is that they are very aggressive: every year there are about 500 deaths in Africa from hippo attacks. The probability that a hippo attack is fatal is between 29% and 87%, according to research published in the journal Oxford Medical Case Reports.

Fortunately, as The Telegraph reports, a two-year-old boy managed to survive an encounter with one of these large animals in Uganda. Fortunately, a neighbor saw the hippo attack and was able to act quickly to save his life.

As Capital FM Uganda reports, the boy was playing alone near his home on Lake Katwe in the town of Katwa Kabatoro. suddenly a hippopotamus it grabbed it with its huge jaws and tried to devour it as we leave for the lake.

Chrispas Bagonza, along with other locals witnessed and tried to save the boy’s life by throwing rocks at the huge hippopotamus and setting off the town’s alarms. Seeing the banging and the noise, the mammal ended up spitting out the baby. It was, without a doubt, a true miracle.

Once freed and rescued, the minor was transferred to a nearby clinic and later to Bwera hospital, near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, to receive medical treatment for the injuries sustained in the attack. He has been given the rabies vaccine and is now with his parents.

“This is the first such incident where a hippopotamus has wandered off Lake Edward and attacked a child,” Ugandan police said in a statement.

In this sense, they reminded parents of towns near lakes that crocodiles and hippos can appear at any moment and attack: “We want to remind all residents of Katwe Kabatoro Township, located within Queen Elizabeth National Park, to stay alert and always alert rangers to animals that have entered their areas.”
