susan husseyformer lady-in-waiting of Elizabeth II and godmother of Prince William, met this Friday Ngozi Fulani, the woman who allegedly abused with racist sayings at Buckignham Palace, to apologize for the controversial episode that took place.
You are the president of the British Association Sista Spacewhich helps black victims of gender-based violence, whom Lady Susan had persistently questioned about her origins at a reception held weeks earlier.
To that effect, both held a meeting in which the 83-year-old woman offered her apologies for the incident, which sparked a major scandal within the British kingdom, resulting in Elizabeth II’s close friend to resign from his position.
“During this meeting, filled with warmth and understanding, Lady Susan sincerely apologized for the comments she made and the distress caused to Mrs Fulani,” the Royal Household said in a statement.
They also detailed: “Lady Susan she undertook to deepen her awareness of the sensitivities concerned and welcomes the opportunity to learn more about the matter.”
And they concluded: “Fulani, who has unjustly received a horrendous barrage of insults on social media and elsewhere, accepted their apology and understood it was not malicious.”
The episode had been reported by the activist herself, who made the incident public through her social networks.
In a tweet, Fulani said that, upon her arrival at the reception held in November, a person she referred to as “Lady SH” he “pulled back her hair” to see her ID pinned to her chest and asked about her origins.
When told she was British, Hussey insisted: “No, but where does it really come from?“.
Ngozi replied again that he was born and raised in the UK, but not satisfied with the answer Susan Hussey reiterated: “No, but where does it come from in africa?”, “Where do your people come from?”, “When did they first come?”
This conversation provoked a new controversy in the palace, which immediately censured the “unacceptable comments” and announced Hussey’s resignation.
The issue of racism has been particularly sensitive for the British royal family since Prince Harry, William’s younger brother, and his American wife Meghan Markle accused one of their members of worrying about the skin color of their future sons.
