The idol of the Ukrainian national team, Andriy Shevchenko, talked about the moments of terror he experienced in Ukraine, which has been at war with Russia since the Russian invasion in February. In an interview with England’s Sky Sports, the former Milan striker said he was very close to an explosion caused by an enemy attack.
“I was very close to the attack, about two kilometers away. One of the central electricity generators was hit. As we all know, the Russians are trying to attack important infrastructure,” he said.
“The blast sensation was very strong. But when I got to the war zone, I knew it could happen,” he added.
Andriy Shevchenko spoke about the feeling that gripped Ukrainians and said that there was no choice but to continue fighting for his people.
“It’s an incredible feeling to go there. People are suffering but they’re so united. We know what we have to do, we know how to survive, we know we have to be united,” he affirmed.
“In some places, when the electricity comes on, one invites the other to his house, takes a shower, shares his food… That’s what people do, helping each other, helping each other.”
“I believe there is power in Ukraine, their minds are unbreakable. We have no other choice. Surrender is the last option for us. We have a very clear goal: we are fighting for our land, for our future. They are a truly united people”, finished.
