Last week, a pizza order in Aldershot, UK, came to an end when a customer was attacked by a delivery woman. Stephen Jenkinson, 34, made the request via the delivery platform Deliveroo, but the delay and disagreement over the delivery confirmation led to an unalterable attack that resulted in his thumb snapped.
Speaking to British tabloid The Sun, the plumber said his delivery was delayed because an unidentified Deliveroo employee could not find his address. When the pizza finally arrived he went to the door to get it delivered and the delivery guy asked for the order confirmation code.
Stephen is said to have told the woman that her cell phone was forgotten at home so she would confirm the delivery on her cell phone. However, he did not agree. “He came up to me, punched and kicked me. My thumb got into his mouth and bit down and found its way out,” the man told The Sun.
The plumber, who was being treated at the hospital, was told by the doctors that his finger could not be reattached. Also, The Sun stated that the police hid his finger as “evidence”.
Stephen says the abuse “destroyed” his life because he feared he wouldn’t be able to go back to work like he used to. Meanwhile, the delivery woman was arrested and charged with intentionally causing grievous bodily harm, but was kept in custody until March.
Deliveroo said it has launched an investigation into the incident and said “this behavior is absolutely unacceptable”, the tabloid newspaper reported.
