Are you looking for the most beautiful place to spend your holidays?NASA asked on its Facebook page and added in the same post: “You won’t find anyone there, but the coldest place we’ve found on Earth (with the help of NASA satellites) is a high ridge on the East Antarctic Plateau.

According to the US Aerospace Agency, the High Ridge of Antarctica is located on the Eastern Plateau.

There, temperatures in various gullies can drop below 92° Celsius on a clear winter nightcolder than the minimum temperature previously recorded.

The coldest place in the world according to NASA

Scientists at the National Snow and Ice Data Center made the discovery by analyzing temperature maps detailed surface maps to date, made with data from remote sensing satellites such as the MODIS sensor on NASA’s Aqua satellite and the TIRS sensor on Landsat 8, a joint project of NASA and the US Geological Survey (USGS).

The researchers analyzed 32 years of data from various satellite instruments that mapped temperature from the surface of Antarctica.

Near a high ridge running from Arugs Dome to Fuji Dome, scientists have found clusters of pockets that have plummeted to record temperatures dozens of times.

The lowest temperature recorded by satellites was -93.2°C (-136°F). temperatures to the max “They can drop as low as 135 degrees below zero” on winter nights, NASA said.

The old record was -89.2°C (-128.6°F), set in 1983 at the Russian research station Vostok in East Antarctica.

While the coldest permanently inhabited place on Earth is northeastern Siberia, where temperatures dropped to 90 degrees below zero in the cities of Verkhoyansk (in 1892) and Oimekon (in 1933).

The lowest temperature on Earth

During the winter nights, on the high ridge of Antarctica, temperatures reach 135 degrees below zero. At that point even the gasoline freezes.

NASA first reported finding the coldest spot on the planet in 2013, and the plateau has held the dubious honor every year since.

The National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) noted that the East Antarctic Plateau was the coldest place in the world after studying 32 years of data from various satellites, NASA said.

“Near a high ridge running from Arugs Dome to Fuji Dome, scientists found clusters of voids that plummeted to record low temperatures dozens of times,” NASA scientists said.

Scientists attribute the dangerous temperatures over the Antarctic Plateau to a combination of air “sitting still for long periods, yet still radiating more heat into space.”
