The Kremlin said on Thursday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to the United States had no intention of “listening to Russia” and showed that Washington was waging an “indirect war” against Russia in Ukraine.

“We can sadly note that so far neither President (American Joe) Biden nor President Zelensky has said anything that could be seen as being willing to listen to Russia’s concerns,” Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.

According to Peskov, during this visit there were no “true calls for peace” or “warnings” from the United States to Zelensky against the “constant bombing of residences in populated areas of Donbass”, a partially controlled region of eastern Ukraine. It was bombed by pro-Russian separatists and frequently by Ukrainian forces.

“This shows that the United States remains in the de facto and indirect line of war with Russia to the last Ukrainian,” he said.

Zelensky was in Washington on Wednesday for his first international trip since Russia’s offensive against Ukraine began in February.

During this visit, he was promised financial and military assistance.
