Brazilian Leonardo Arcanjo, known as Leo Sapinho, was caught by agents disguised as homeless in Lisbon this week.
Arcanjo, a 45-year-old miner, was convicted of aggravated murder and faces 15 years and 6 months in prison. He has been on the run since 2019 and is wanted by Interpol.
According to the Portuguese newspaper Correio da Manhã, SEF (Foreigners and Borders Service) agents disguised to verify whether the criminal actually lived in the area.
Leo Sapinho was convicted of murdering a man in Belo Horizonte in 2005. According to the verdict, this was an execution related to drug trafficking. In a note, SEF said it would be referred to the Lisbon Court for extradition to Brazil.
