The demonstration by Kurdish militants in Paris in tribute to the three victims of a shooting in front of a cultural site of that community in the French capital led to violent incidents and clashes with the police this Saturday.
Several thousand people demonstrated peacefully in the Plaza de la República, a few meters from the place where a 69-year-old pensioner killed three people this Friday and wounded like so many others in a fatal shooting, before being arrested.
The demonstration, in which many of the participants carried Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) flags, was mostly peaceful.
But in its surroundings there have been several accidents and riots, with damage to street furniture and objects thrown at police officers who were standing by.
Several staff members wearing jackets marked with the initials of the Kurdish Democratic Committee in France (CDKF), organizer of the demonstration, tried in every way to intervene between the violent militants and the police to prevent the incidents.
This did not prevent the group of fanatics from causing damage to the venue and throwing objects at the officers, who responded with tear gas, which ended up permeating the entire sector.
Including the Plaza de la República itself, where the demonstration took place peacefully, with the militants calmly displaying their flags.
The insistence of the CDKF security service, which sent calls for calm from a truck, ended up dispersing the most excited demonstrators, even if the tension remained.
