11 people were killed and 23 injured in an accident that occurred when a passenger bus rolled off a cliff in eastern Bolivia on Friday.
“As a result of this traffic accident, 11 people were killed and 23 people were injured,” police chief Oscar Medrano told the Unitel television channel in a village close to the scene of the accident.
The bus crashed on the route between Santa Cruz and the small rural town of Saipina in the east of the country earlier this Friday, according to preliminary investigations.
The causes of the accident are still unknown.
Some of the injured were being treated at the hospital in Saipina, while the most severe cases were taken to Santa Cruz.
Traffic accidents in Bolivia in 2021 left a total of 11,155 injured and 1,325 dead, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
