Local officials said on Friday that a person suspected of stabbing and killing four students at a university in western Idaho has been arrested.
Bryan Christopher Kohberger, 28, was arrested at a home in Albrightsville, Pennsylvania last night in connection with the crime that rocked the small Moscow community where the bodies of Ethan Chapin and Xana Kernodle, 20, and Madison Mogen and Kaylee Gonçalves, 21, were found. Found on 13 November.
In the autopsy, it was determined that the young people had defensive wounds indicating that they were trying to protect themselves from the attacker.
Moscow Police Commander James Fry said at a press conference that the killings triggered an extensive police operation and that thousands of community-provided clues led to Kohberger’s capture.
Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson said Kohberger, who appeared in court for the first time and will return next Tuesday, will face four counts of first-degree murder and one aggravated robbery.
The motives for the crime are unknown and the weapon could not be located, but James Fry confirmed that a car linked to the crime was found in Kohberg’s home.
The suspect appears to be enrolled as a PhD student in the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Washington State University, located about 15 minutes from the crime scene.
