Legendary American news anchor Barbara Walterspioneer of women’s journalism, died on Friday at the age of 93.

“Barbara Walters died peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, in her Home. She lived her life with no regrets. She was a pioneer not just for women journalists, but for all women,” according to the official statement her spokesperson Cindi Berger shared with Cnn.

Joining ABC News in 1976, Walters became the first female anchor of a major American primetime newscast. In times when male faces dominated television, she emerged as the leading female voice.
