Mr President,
We survived the most threatening moment of our young democracy and won without firing a shot. A small, disgusting, violent, cruel, ignorant, and irresponsible man has fled and orphaned thousands of his followers, who have been swindled by a strategy that uses lies as a tool of power.
We now have an obligation to reinvent the future on behalf of many who have suffered under a denying government and have seen their dreams shattered in tears. We have an obligation to reinvent our democracy, who we are in the world, and our multiple, diverse and inclusive national identity.
The truth is, President, from now on the eyes of the world are focused on you.
For Brazilians, your presidency faces the colossal task of restoring trust in institutions, appeasing families, giving meaning to public service and restoring the dignity of millions of hungry people.
His administration will have to prove to the world that the Amazon is not in the suburbs of Brazil. But at the center is power, priorities and the nation’s project. In many ways, the survival of a democracy alone does not depend on it. But from our existence on the planet.
To the leadership-deprived world, your presidency will have to prove that we are a trusted partner, fighting corruption and crime, part of solutions to the planet’s crises. And it’s not part of the problems.
The inauguration ceremony will be celebrated by an unprecedented number of foreign delegations. But do not be under the illusion that this is a personal stamp of God alone. His victory – and now his inauguration – were essential steps for Western democracies to respond to the far-right movement that occupied families, cults, schools, football fans and all aspects of society.
Dear Lula,
For all these reasons, I think you have assumed the most important task in the history of Brazilian democracy. Perhaps this is our last chance to liquidate a barbaric movement that has deep and armed roots in Brazil.
The eventual failure of his rule will give a narrative of power and legitimacy to groups that do not believe in democracy as a social contract.
Bolsonaro fled. But Bolsonarism has settled in our country. It won important seats in the Senate and states. And with the relaxation of some laws, a real area of hatred has opened up in the conscience of the guns.
There is no consensus on the name, polls have shown it. Many Brazilians wouldn’t vote for you if it weren’t for the urgent need to prevent our democracy from collapsing. That doesn’t count the other half of the country that didn’t vote for you.
Therefore, there will be no ceasefire, 100 days of silence or a so-called honeymoon.
As the press, we are here to watch, accuse and question. But it must be admitted that the decisions made by his team deserve applause: a truly indigenous Funai, return of women’s participation in ministerial positions, seeking diversity, real leadership on human rights issues, famous scientists in charge of Health, environmentalists right positions, black movement voices in the democratization effort.
Today we are a violated nation, a disrespectful republic, and we have normalized hatred as a political tool. Jair Bolsonaro’s four-year government comes to an end with the typical trait of mediocre leaders: cowardice.
Fucking this rascal won’t solve our problems. We have to demand justice. So whoever kills dies of fear. To establish that sadism is not a political orientation, as the Argentine Julio Strassera said. It is moral perversion.
Minister,
The task of getting the country out of a ditch, depression and burnout is huge. Many believe that you have no right to make mistakes. Is the fee too high? Maybe. But what is at stake will determine our generation. in Brazil and around the world.
Good luck, happy birthday and democratic greetings
Jamil
