London – It won’t be easy for Brazil: The online encyclopedia Wikipedia, the Wiki Loves Monuments photography competition of monuments and historical sites, has announced the winners of the first stage of the competition and the international finalists who will compete for the title of best photograph. of the year.

30 countries participated in the competition. All saved images become part of the Wikipedia collection, which is freely accessible to anyone.

Ten paintings selected by the jury from each country are competing for the international award. The winner will be announced in February 2023.

The winning image for Wiki Loves Monuments Brazil in 2022 was a Brasilia photograph of the ‘A Justiça’ statue with the Federal Supreme Court building in the background.

Nine other photographs of Brazilian monuments in Pernambuco, São Paulo, Bahia, Espírito Santo and Rondônia also compete on the international stage with ten photographs selected from each of the participating countries.

Contest photos show places of architectural or historical significance that are not part of the Wikipedia image collection, and others are new interpretations of previously depicted monuments and historical sites.

Brazil won in 2021 with an image of the Portuguese Reading Cabinet in Rio de Janeiro.

Germany
