A doctor wanted to kill his family by jumping off a cliff: they all survived and are expecting the worst

In California, Dharmesh Arvind Patel, a 41-year-old man who drove a Tesla, decided to kill himself and his entire family with him, and although his plan was to kill everyone, the two adults and the two children traveling they were miraculously saved.

The man was arrested on charges of intentionally causing the accident.

Patel, 41, of Pasadena, is suspected of attempted murder and endangerment of children, the California Highway Patrol said Tuesday.

The man was arrested Monday night at Stanford Hospital.where he was being treated for injuries sustained in the crash, and will be admitted to the San Mateo County Jail after being released from the hospital.

The other occupants of the vehicle were identified as Patel’s 41-year-old wife, 7-year-old daughter and 4-year-old son., according to Andrew Barclay, public information officer for the California Highway Patrol. Their names have not been released.

Patel is a radiologist at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hill.

“Providence Holy Cross Medical Center is deeply saddened to learn a traffic accident involving one of our doctors and his family. We are extremely grateful that there were no serious injuries,” said Michael Connors, a hospital spokesman.

Officers were dispatched at around 10.50am Monday to a call from a vehicle that went off a cliff on Highway 1, just south of the Tom Lantos Tunnels, authorities said.

The agents and rescuers who arrived at the scene of the accident they saw a white Tesla that fell off the cliff.

The vehicle appeared to have flipped several times before landing on its wheels, wedged against the cliff just feet from the surf, rescuers told NBC.

The area, about 15 miles south of San Francisco, Called Devil’s Slide, it is notorious for its fatal crashes.

“We go there all the time because of cars that fall off the cliff and never survive,” said Coast Fire Protection District/Cal Fire battalion chief Brian Pottenger. “This was an absolute miracle.”

Staff got into the car and rescued two adults and two children from inside, who were taken to hospital for their serious injuries.

Investigation of possible crime

Detectives worked through the night questioning witnesses and gathering evidence from the scene. Based on this, they have developed probable cause to believe this accident was an intentional act,” the California Highway Patrol said in a statement.

According to authorities, Patel, sHe will be charged with attempted murder and child abuse of his wife and children aged 7 and 4.once he’s able to leave the hospital, said Officer Andrew Barclay, a spokesman for the Highway Patrol’s Golden Gate division.
