A con man from Caracara wanted to start the year by committing a crime, but his plan didn’t go as planned: he threw himself on the hood of a car to then collect the accident insurance, but no one believed his performance and he had no choice but to run away.
It happened on January 1 in Mongkok, Hong Kong, Asia Wire reported.
In a viral video on Twitter, you can see how the man intentionally pounces on the front of a vehicle and then feigns illness by doing dozens of exaggerated laps on the concrete.
Seeing him arrive, the driver stops the march in time and there is no accident. The scammer’s idea was to make it look like the driver ran over him, but by jumping onto the roof of the car just as it was stationary he made it look funny.
The threads of the plan came to light much more when the “carancho” began to roll on the asphalt as if the car had really hit it.
When paramedics arrived intending to rescue him, the man realized that no one would believe his injuries and ran away.
What are “caranchos”?
In some countries, these types of feigned hit-and-run criminals are called “porcelain”. In Argentina, for example, they are known as “caranchos”, “bolseros”, “correambulancias”, “wholesalers” and “blackbirds” lawyers.
They are not always lawyers. The professionals or their envoys go in search of the prey, alerted by the police or hospital staff who report an accident. They always try to go unnoticed.
Like experts, they take advantage of the vulnerability and legal ignorance of victims of accidents (usually traffic) and without going to court, they promote the settlement of the case at a lower cost to the insurer or the company concerned.
A similar case in Argentina
In 2018, a similar case occurred in Hong Kong, but in Paraná, Entre Ríos. A man ran into the center of Avenida Laurencena and threw himself on the hood of a car, falling to the ground.. It was all a lie.
“A person injured on the public road, in the first instance, referring to a possible traffic accident,” said the deputy head of the eighth police station, Giuliano Bevilacquain statements to Canal 9 Litoral.
“He reported pain throughout his body. All skills were performed. From what can be obtained from the driver and other witnesses, as there were people, they already told us the person’s actions were strange,” he added. .
The truth is, everything was recorded on security cameras. The man, who only transpired lives in the Maccarone neighborhood, bided his time and when the Volkswagen Fox slowed down a bit he threw himself on the bonnet, fall to the ground and pretend to be unconscious.
