Users who want to view pornography in the state of Louisianain the United States, now dmust present state ID to verify age before accessing adult sites.
On January 1, a new law went into effect holding pornographic sites liable for content deemed “harmful to minors if they don’t implement age verification technology.”
It means that anyone who wants to view pornography in the state must now file a driving license or other identification card proving your age.
Currently, Pornhub is the only site that requires visitors to verify their age through the LA Wallet app, a digital wallet for Louisiana state driver’s licenses.
The new law allows it pornographic sites are sued for damages resulting from access by a minor to such content and is an unusually harsh step in a series of government crackdowns in the name of child safety.
It applies to any business entity that posts or distributes such material over the Internet from a website containing at least 33.3% pornographic material.
The legislation was drafted by Representative Laurie Schlegel, who also supported legislation that Frban transgender teens from participating in school sports based on their gender identity.
