After being rushed to US for abdominal pain, former President Jair Bolsonaro has confirmed it he has already been discharged from AdventHealth Celebration Hospital located in Orlando, Florida. Through his official Twitter account, he thanked the prayers on his behalf.
“After being stabbed in Juiz de Fora/MG, I underwent 5 surgeries,” he said, continuing: “Since the last one, I’ve had adhesions 2 times which led to other medical procedures.” But now he has confirmed the discharge: “Yesterday (Sunday) new membership and today Monday-discharge from the hospital in Orlando / USA”. “Thankful for the prayers and speedy recovery messages,” he concluded.
The news that Bolsonaro had been hospitalized spread like wildfire yesterday amid the serious political fuss caused by his followers who attacked and destroyed the headquarters of Congress, the Planalto and the Tribunal on Sunday.
When rumors of the expulsion of the former president, who is on vacation in Orlando in a villa rented by a famous fighter, grow in the United States, Bolsonaro was hospitalized for alleged abdominal pains.
Immigration experts interviewed by Clarin said it could be a strategy by the former president to extend his stay in the United States, presumably humanitarian reasons.
“If Bolsonaro has sustained health issues, perhaps he could request an extension of his stay on humanitarian grounds,” Marcela Rodríguez, a senior immigration lawyer, told Clarín, a key issue after it emerged the Brazilian had been hospitalized .
It was not disclosed what type of visa Bolsonaro has or how long he estimates he will stay. But despite growing calls from Washington lawmakers, experts have said any decision to expel Bolsonaro from the US may not be quick.
Other hospitalizations
Having been stabbed in 2018 in the midst of the then presidential campaign, the former president has been hospitalized several times for problems related to that episode. The last time was in November last year, when he had to rest in the hospital of the armed forces in Brasilia.
Earlier, via an Instagram story, Michelle Bolsonaro asked the Brazilian people to pray for her husband. “Dear friends, I come to inform you that my husband Jair Bolsonaro is under observation in hospital due to abdominal discomfort following the stabbing suffered in 2018 by a former member of the PSOL. We pray for his health and for Brazil. God bless us,” she wrote.
