An unusual obituary for a Utah man who allegedly killed his entire family in a murder-suicide plot says he “strove to spend quality time with each of his children” as an online fundraising campaign changes his picture in one picture for another of Jesus.
Police believe 42-year-old Michael Haight fatally shot his wife, Tausha Haight, 40 years old, her three daughters, aged 17, 12 and 7, and her two sons, aged 7 and 4, on January 4, two weeks after she filed for divorce, according to authorities.
Her mother-in-law, Gail Earl, 78, was also killed in the Enoch City massacre.
But a recent obituary published in The Spectrum made no mention of the murders and he painted an angelic picture of the shootersaying that “he excelled in everything he did” after graduating from high school in 1998 as a “sterling business scholar,” the article said.
“Michael spent the summer after graduation working in a fish processing plant in Alaska.. His leadership skills, his values of hard and honest work and his determination quickly led him to be a leader of the line and to be in charge of a crew of 10-12 men,” reads the text.
“Michael was called and served a full-time mission in South Porto Alegre, Brazil, for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,” the obituary continues.
