A woman defended her son from an attempted kidnapping and used a weapon to scare away the criminals. The dramatic situation occurred on January 5 in Des Moines, in the United States.
Michael Ernest Ross, 43, and Laurie Lynn Potter, 57, arrived at the building where the mother and baby reside.
The building manager, Shay Lindberg, whose son was standing next to her, finally opened the door to ask Ross and Potter if there was any problem. Then one of them tried to take the baby away from her, but Lindberg was armed.
Sergeant Paul Parizek of the Des Moines Police Department told KDSM that this he was an example of someone who legally owns a gun and puts it to good use.
“It certainly feels like the big game changer here, the critical piece of keeping your child safe, it was the fact that she was legally armed with a gun, and she pulled it out and told them ‘let my son go,’” Parizek said.
According to Polk County Jail records, Potter and Ross had already been charged with child theft on Jan. 5.
However, Potter was on probation and was charged with two counts of violating his probation. The investigation is still ongoing and the final sentence is expected shortly.
