The White House declined to provide new details on Tuesday classified documents found in recent weeks in an office and at the home of the President of the United States, Joe Bidenas there is an open investigation.
“We are providing the public with information on this matter as appropriate. But of courseWe are limited in what we can say given the ongoing review by the Justice Department,” White House Counsel spokesman Ian Sams said in a conversation with a group of reporters.
since last Thursday the investigations are in the hands of a special prosecutorconservative attorney Robert Hur, nominated by US Secretary of Justice Merrick Garland.
Despite persistent press inquiries about the content of the documents found multiple times since last November and if further searches are underway, Sams simply referred reporters to the Justice Department.
“We understand that there is a tension between, you know, protecting and safeguarding ongoing investigations and providing an appropriate level of public information to all of you,” he said.
Sams suggested that he did not know the contents of the documents because “As soon as these documents were identified, they were immediately handed over to the relevant authorities.”
“In terms of content, in terms of numbers, in terms of details related to the materials themselves, we can’t deal with it because these have been handed over to the relevant authorities,” he insisted.
A case that complicates Joe Biden
Sams therefore did not offer news on a case he is called to complicate the last two years of Biden’s term and this was discovered on Monday of last week, despite the fact that the first results in the president’s office in the Penn Center think tank were in early November, while his team members were organizing and cleaning the room.
White House spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre also dodged reporters’ questions Tuesday at her daily press conference.
“One of the things we’ve said over the past two years (…) is that we won’t comment on legal matters,” he assured before returning to defend the work of the US administration, which is “fully collaborating” with the Department of Justice in its investigations.
The spokeswoman also declined to answer the question whether Jean-Pierre was already aware of the appearance of new files, revealed this weekend, when asked last Friday whether any new documents had been discovered.
In total, the White House has acknowledged the appearance of new classified documents on three occasions since Biden was vice president (2009-2017), most recently this past Saturday.
On him Why the delay in making this case public?Sams limited himself to insisting on the official speech: “The president is committed do what is responsible and handle it appropriately. His team has acted properly in disclosing information to the relevant authorities and is fully cooperating.”
Biden has only spoken twice about this case. The last time last Thursday, when he trusted his favorable purpose: “Everything will be clarified, I’m sure”, pointed.
He also declined to speak on the matter on Tuesday, despite being inundated with questions from the press at the start of his meeting with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte.
During the call, Sams criticized the position taken by the Republican Party. In his view, they are “acting theater” and “feigning indignation”, despite having “defended the actions of former president” Donald Trump, also under investigation for having accumulated confidential documents in his residence in Mar-a-Lago (Florida), discovered after an FBI raid.
