Horror in Chile: in protest they throw a dead lion in front of the government building

The lifeless body of Zeus, a 14-year-old lionwas thrown outside the Chilean presidential palace in downtown Santiago as a protest after a botched inspection procedure at a zoo.

After the animal will not wake up after being anesthetizedthe owner of the private zoo where he remained took his body and brought it to the center of Santiago, to leave it at one of the entrances to the La Moneda presidential palace.

“Why are we protesting? Why they made us kill an animal. They made us stain our hands with our pets’ blood just to read the chip,” he told local media. César Chanampa, owner of the zoo from the city of Los Angeles, 500 km south of Santiago.

The image of the dead animal spread quickly on social mediawhere there has been dispute over the actions of all parties involved in the case, and aroused the curiosity of thousands of people who were passing through the center of the Chilean capital at that moment.

The Agricultural and Livestock Service (SAG) will certainly anesthetize the animal on Thursday to proceed to read the chip or information storage device and then identify the lion and confirm that the zoo had its sent in order

According to Chanampa, the zoo will be observing the SAG on the danger of the procedure and the risk of death for that 14-year-old animal: “It was not necessary to anesthetize the lion”, he has declared.

In a statement, the Agriculture and Livestock Service explained that the sedation process “is necessary to carry out a secure review process and which safeguards the physical integrity of both the animals and the personnel participating in the procedure”.

He added that the practice was carried out as part of an administrative sanctioning procedure against the private zoo, “for serious irregularities deriving from a improper handling of animals that are in this establishment”.

After spending a few hours outside the Chilean presidential palace, Zeus’s body was removed.
