Police in the United States shot dead a legless African American: they said it was in self-defense

Shortly after the assassination of Tire Nichols, the American police again find themselves involved in a case of violence: agents of Huntington Park, California, a legless African American man was shot and killed.

The 36-year-old victim is Anthony Lowe Jr. The event took place at 16:00 on January 26, but videos of part of the episode have gone viral in the last few hours.

In them you can see how two policemen are chasing Lowe after he gets out of his wheelchair. The disabled man tries to escape and, at the same time, on one occasion, threatens to throw something that appears to be a knife at him.

Huntington police officers claimed he was shot because they were afraid he would throw a knife at them. They also said they had previously attempted to reduce it using electric weapons.

According to various versions gathered by the local media, the agents shot him at least 10 times. They are said to have arrived at Lowe’s after a person called them saying she had been stabbed by a person in a wheelchair.

The reactions

The victim’s family calls for justice as outrage over the incident grows.

The Tire Nichols case

The fact adds to the recent murder of the African American Tire Nichols, beaten by a group of Memphis policemen and died on January 10 following the beating.

The episode of brutality took place in the first days of January, when a group of officers stopped the 29-year-old for a traffic violation.

In a series of videos taken by security cameras you can see how the police officers act they kicked him, some on the head, hits with fists and even with the truncheon.

Another video shows Nichols when he is finally caught by officers, who forcefully beat him several times and use pepper spray and a taser.
