A 10-year-old girl was rescued by the Korea Emergency Relief Team (KDRT), which was dispatched to the southeastern region of Turkiye where the earthquake occurred. A total of five survivors have been rescued by the relief team from the earthquake-damaged site so far (as of 6:00 p.m. Korean time).
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 9th (local time), at around 11:50 am on the same day, our emergency relief team, which is conducting relief operations in the Hatay Antakya region, rescued one additional survivor. The survivor, a 10-year-old girl, was confirmed to have no major health problems.
Rescue teams began searching at 5 a.m. on the same day and rescued a man in his 70s in about an hour and a half. When the survivor made a sound, it is known that the relief team made a passage and rescued him. Then, around 10:00 am, a man in his 40s, a 2-year-old girl, and a 35-year-old woman who were father and daughter were successfully rescued in turn.
Relief teams were also reported to have recovered the bodies of four people who died from the earthquake at the site that day. At least 16,000 people were killed in a 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck the border between Turkey and Syria on the 6th.
The previous day, the South Korean government dispatched an emergency relief team of 118 people, including search and rescue teams and military personnel. It is the largest ever for a single dispatch. The personnel dispatched this time are scheduled to develop local activities for 10 days until the 17th. The government plans to consider a second dispatch depending on the local situation.
