On the fourth day of the earthquake that hit southeastern Turkey and northwestern Syria, 72 hours of lifesaving ‘golden time’ passed, but heartwarming stories continued.

On the afternoon of the 6th, 10 hours after the earthquake, people lined up to adopt a rescued newborn baby with an umbilical cord attached to the wreckage of a collapsed fifth-floor apartment in northern Syria. According to the British BBC on the 9th, dozens of phone calls were made to the children’s hospital in Syria, where the baby was being hospitalized. Thousands of posts were posted on social media asking how to adopt a baby.

The Children’s Hospital is taking great care of the baby, calling it ‘Aya’, which means miracle in Arabic. However, adopting Aya will not be easy. The Associated Press reported that Aya’s great-uncle (Aya’s father’s uncle), Salah Al-Badran, will take Aya in and take care of her as soon as she is discharged from the hospital. Aya, who had bruises all over her body and difficulty breathing when she was taken to the hospital, is said to be in a stable condition.

News of miraculous rescues of survivors continued at earthquake-stricken sites. A Turkish mother and daughter were rescued together from the rubble of a collapsed building 92 hours after the accident in Kahramanmaras, Turkey on the 10th. On the 9th, a mother and two sons were revived after 78 hours in Pazardjk, Kahramanmaras. “The kids have to get out first,” said the mother when she saw her rescuers, CNN reported. In Adiyaman, a 6-month-old baby was rescued after 82 hours from the rubble of a collapsed apartment, according to Turkiye state-run TRT TV.
