Kakao-Kim Bum-soo, founder, donates 3.7 billion won to restore the earthquake in Turkey

Kakao and founder Kim Bum-soo started to support recovery from the earthquake that occurred in Turkey and Syria.

Kakao announced on the 12th that its social contribution platform ‘Kakao Value Together’ has raised more than 2.7 billion won in donations to restore earthquake-stricken areas and support victims in Turkey and Syria. In addition, Kim Bum-soo, head of the Future Initiative Center, also decided to donate his personal holdings worth 1 billion won to the ‘Fruit of Love Social Welfare Community Chest’.

Since the earthquake occurred on the 6th (local time), the Korean Committee for UNICEF, the Fruit of Love Social Welfare Community Chest, and the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association opened an emergency collection box to raise donations. Amidst the high response from users, news of fundraising quickly spread through SNS channels and online communities, and donations continued.

The money raised will be delivered to each institution, and will be used for ▲providing drinking water and food for the victims ▲supporting daily necessities and heating supplies ▲relief for affected children ▲medical health support for rescue and treatment.

Users who wish to participate in fundraising can donate directly through the fundraising box page or individual donation boxes, or participate through comments and support sharing. Whenever a user writes a cheering comment at the bottom of the fundraising box page, Kakao donates 1,000 won per comment, and when clicking on the individual donation box to comment, cheer, or share, an additional 100 won is donated. Kakao has donated about 600 million won out of the amount raised so far, and plans to donate up to 1 billion won depending on user participation.

Kakao’s impact commerce ‘Kakao Makers’ is also conducting a project to support earthquake damage recovery. Sweatshirts and smartphone cases with illustrations and messages conveying warm support for Turkey and Syria were presented. The two products are made to order with no inventory left, and will be sold exclusively at Kakao Makers until 5:00 pm on the 19th. All sales proceeds are donated to the Korean Committee for UNICEF, and are used for reconstruction of affected areas, provision of clean drinking water and sanitation, and medical support.
