Tesla CEO Elon Musk, a co-founder of ChatGPT developer OpenAI, said, “Artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the biggest risks to the future of civilization.” It was emphasized that the risk should be minimized by introducing it.

When Musk attended the World Government Summit (WGS) held in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, by video, and was asked about the future of technology in 10 years, Musk said, “In the near future, AI is a technology that we should be very concerned about, and it is a safety concern. You have to pay attention,” he said.

Musk first evaluated that ChatGPT created an opportunity to increase public access to AI. He said, “Although AI has continued to evolve, there has been no interface that users can directly use. ChatGPT showed people how far AI can evolve.”

However, he pointed out that just as nuclear energy has both power production and nuclear bombing, AI also has infinite possibilities and inherent risks. “Think of potentially dangerous technologies like cars, airplanes and pharmaceuticals,” Musk said. We have regulators for each one, and we’re overseeing them if they pose a threat to public safety,” he said.

He urged rapid regulatory oversight, saying that it is too late to respond after a problem arises. Musk said, “As accidents occurred in automobiles, safety regulations such as wearing seat belts and installing airbags gradually increased. “If AI regulation slows down innovation, that is a good thing, too,” he said.

Musk founded OpenAI in 2015 with venture investor Sam Altman, etc., and disposed of his stake in 2018, citing a potential conflict of interest with Tesla. Musk said, “I was concerned that Google (leading AI technology) did not pay much attention to AI safety, so I founded OpenAI.” said. Open AI received an investment of 10 billion dollars (12.9 trillion won) from Microsoft (MS) and is also collaborating with Microsoft.

Previously, Vint Cerf, Google’s chief Internet evangelist and OpenAI Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Mira Murati, called the “Father of the Internet,” also emphasized the need to start discussing AI regulations as soon as possible with the ChatGPT sensation.
