Five Syrian children and their parents died on Friday in a fire in the house they lived in in Turkey, where they had moved after last week’s earthquake, local media reported.
The family had moved to the central region of Konya from the city of Nurdagi, in southeastern Turkey, which was severely hit by the quake on 6 February.
The 7.8-magnitude earthquake killed more than 41,000 people in Turkey and Syria, making it the region’s deadliest natural disaster in centuries.
“We saw the fire but were unable to intervene. A girl was saved from the windowAnadolu Muhsin Cakir, a resident of the area, told the Turkish news agency.
The five deceased children they were between 4 and 13 years old, according to Anadolu. It is not clear whether the rescued girl belonged to the same family.
In Turkey they live almost four million Syrians. Many of them live in the southeast regions, devastated by the earthquake.
Anadolu also quoted a witness, who said so the fire was probably caused by heating or electric heater at night.
Syrian refugees are currently living in Turkey after civil war erupted in the Arab country in 2011. Most Syrians in Turkey live in precarious conditions and the earthquakes have made their lives full of suffering even more difficult.
