The homophobic reaction to episode 3 of The Last of Us HBO’s “Long, Long Time” was as predictable as it was underwhelming. The love story of Bill, played by Nick Offerman, and Frank, directed by Murray Bartlett, has caused some viewers, upset by the portrayal of a same-sex relationship, to criticize the series.
As its episode approached, it carried with it a representation queer Outstanding, actress Storm Reid admitted that she counts in Chapter 7 his relationship with Ellie, the protagonist, played by Bella Ramsey, always expected the homophobic reaction.
“Like Bella said when episode 3 came out: if you don’t like it, don’t watch it,” Reid told GQ UK in an interview, referring to co-star Bella Ramsey’s comments to GQ UK.
“We’re telling important stories, we’re telling people’s experiences, and that’s why I live.. That’s what good storytelling does, because we’re telling stories of people who are taking up space in the world,” Reid added.

The episode flashes back in time to when Ellie was training to be a Phaedra soldier in Boston. Riley. At the time, Riley, her roommate and best friend, has been missing for several weeks but one night she sneaks back through the bedroom window.
Riley, who has joined the Fireflies and is soon leaving Boston, whowants to share another special night with Ellie. They sneak into an abandoned mall and have fun on the carousel, the “escalators” culminating in Ellie and Riley’s first kiss.
“This is 2023. If you’re worried about who I love, then I need you to get your priorities straight,” Reid says of anyone upset about Ellie and Riley’s relationship.
“There are so many other things to worry about in life. Why do you care that these young people – or anyone else – love each other? Love is beautiful, and the fact that people have anything to say about it, doesn’t make sense.” added the actress.
Moments after the kiss, Riley promises Ellie that she won’t go with the fireflies. He’s staying with Ellie in Boston. Then, an infected attacks them in the mall.
The girls subdue him, but both have been bitten. They cry and get very angry, until finally they agree to sit together and wait for the infection to drive them crazy.
Viewers, however, already know that Ellie is immune, so she’ll be forced to watch as the object of her affections transforms into a monster.
“I don’t just represent women. I represent young blacks and young gays experiencing new feelings and new relationshipsReid explained.
“There were all kinds of homophobic reactions on Sunday, but I don’t care because I’m proud of what we’ve done and I’m proud of the story we’ve told.“said the actress.
