Six sneakers worn by Michael Jordan, the ‘Basketball Emperor’, in the NBA Finals have been put up for auction.
According to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), the auction house Sotheby’s will auction six Nike Air Jordan sneakers in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on the 28th (local time).
These sneakers were worn by Jordan at the Chicago Bulls championship game in the 1990s.
According to Sotheby’s, the sneaker collection was first collected by Tim Hallam, who served as public relations director for the Chicago Bulls. In an interview in 1997, he said of his collection, “I received my personal shoes directly from Jordan.” I asked for each,” he said.
Hallam later sold the collection to someone, but who the buyer was or how much he paid was not disclosed.
Jordan Geller, who runs a sneaker museum in Las Vegas, Nevada, estimates that the price of the collection to be auctioned will range from at least 20 million dollars (approximately 26.5 billion won) to 100 million dollars (approximately 132.3 billion won).
Items worn by Jordan have sold for record prices on the auction market. In 2021, at Sotheby’s, a pair of Nike sneakers worn by Jordan as a rookie sold for $1.472 million (approximately 1.9 billion won).
In the same year, the sportswear Jordan wore while attending the University of North Carolina sold for $1.38 million (approximately 1.8 billion won) at the New York Heritage Auction. Last year, at Sotheby’s, the uniform Jordan wore in the opening game of the 1998 NBA Finals was sold for $10.1 million (approximately 13.4 billion won).
