As detailed by experts from the Peruvian Ministry of Culture to various local media, it is estimated that the human remains would be 800 years old, would come from the Patambuco district and would have been in the possession of the distributed family for about 30 years.

The discovery, according to local media, took place last Saturday in a lookout in Puno, where some police officers carried out their usual patrol and found three men consuming alcoholic beverages, one of them with a “delivery” box of the firm “Pedidos Gia”. .

Inside were human remains in a fetal position and soft tissue with characteristics corresponding to a mummy, which was communicated to the Public Prosecutor and the Ministry of Culture.

For his part, the merchant said so he kept the mummy in his parents’ house and that he took it out to be seen by his friends in the neighborhood, according to the newspaper El Comercio.

The owner of the backpack, identified as Julio César, stated that “I take care of it and maintain it. It’s like, pardon the word, my spiritual girlfriend (…) She sleeps in my bedroom, with me. There is my bed, the television and next to it is Juanita (the mummy)”

“This mummy belonged to my father. I’m 26, we’re talking 1980 or 1990. (I was moving it) because my friends wanted to see it,” the delivery man said.

The detainees were identified as Julio Bernedo (26), Diego Luque (23) and Roy Cartagena (26), who are under investigation for crimes against cultural heritage, according to the police report.

After the discovery, the Ministry of Culture immediately ordered the custody of the remains “in order to protect and preserve the heritage”.

Now, the relevant departments are taking appropriate steps for the physical and legal protection of the mummy in question cultural heritage of the Andean country.

In light of these facts, the ministry has invited the population to “actively collaborate in the defense and protection” of cultural heritage and to notify the authorities of any similar findings.
