Little Manuel, the 17-year-old boy suffering from rhabdoid cancer, died on Tuesday in the hospital where he was being treated in Madrid, Spain. “He passed away in peace, in the arms of his father and mother, serene and surrounded by so much love,” said his family on social networks.
Cris Cáncer, a private and independent organization “whose objective is the promotion and funding of research projects to defeat cancer”, also announced the child’s death on Twitter.
In its letter, the organization wanted to convey to Sara – Manuel’s mother – and the rest of the family “all our love and support, in such a painful and heartbreaking moment”. “Your smile, Manuel, will always accompany us…”, concludes the letter.
The boy’s mother had launched a solidarity campaign to collaborate in the investigation into the tumor suffered by her son. Sara, in fact, has managed to raise more than 100 thousand dollars, which will be dedicated to the analysis of rhabdoid cancer.
Manuel was diagnosed with cancer last October. It was a type of cancer that affects children under three years of age and whose mortality rate is between 80 and 100%. “He started to have a high fever, but we thought it coincided with the beginning of nursery school. But, already in October, the situation worsened and we took him to the hospital. The doctors did an ultrasound and saw that his liver was invaded by cancer.” his mother said.
But only a few days ago, Sara herself declared that “this week everything got complicated with Manuel’s pneumonia” and it was then that the fundraising campaign was launched, and it was progressing well: in just two weeks it passed the barrier of one hundred thousand euros collected and this Tuesday the figure stood at 132,784 euros, less than 18,000 euros of the 150,000 requested.
Also a few days ago, Manuel’s mother explained that the little one underwent seven cycles of chemotherapy which managed to “eliminate the lung metastases”, but when he suffered from pneumonia she interrupted the operation and the possibility of a liver transplant which he needed. . “We were doing great, but when he got pneumonia they can’t operate on him or give him chemo,” complained the mother, who was also suffering from pneumonia, like her other son.
In recent days, Manuel’s parents wanted to thank all the donors for their solidarity, not only with financial donations, but also with the organization of a concert in the next few days.
