A 20-year-old chicken in the United States has been recorded as the oldest living chicken.

The Guinness Book of World Records announced on the 1st (local time) that ‘Peanut’, a hen living in Michigan, USA, has entered the Guinness record as ‘the oldest living chicken’. Peanut, a pet chicken of the Bantam breed, lived 20 years and 304 days as of today.

The average lifespan of a chicken is 5 to 10 years. The Guinness Book of World Records’ oldest chicken ever died at the age of 23 years and 152 days.

Peanut was a being who almost never was born into the world. Twenty years ago, a woman named Marcy picked up a discarded egg just before hatching and raised it.

“At the time, I thought the egg was dead and was about to throw it into the pond,” said Marci. Peanut probably had a strong survival instinct.”

Marcie shelled the egg, and Peanut barely survived. After that, they lived together for two years in a parrot cage that Marci kept in the kitchen.

Peanut laid eggs until she was 8 years old. This is a period of one to two years longer than average.

Currently, four generations of ‘chicken family’ live in Marsi’s chicken coop. In terms of people, grandchildren and great-grandchildren live together. Peanut’s first cub is also a 15-year-old longevity chicken.

Peanut likes to watch TV on Marcy’s lap. Sunbathing and rubbing the body in the dirt are Peanut’s hobbies. Peanut responds when his name is called, Marci said.

Marci revealed that the secret to Peanut’s longevity is plenty of exercise and a healthy diet. He said, “I put crushed vitamin D pills in peanut yogurt. I give them fresh fruits and vegetables from time to time.” “Always give them fresh water that is not mixed with foreign substances. Above all, pouring love is the best way.”
