Pope Francis warned of this on Thursday “The Church cannot try to hide the tragedy of abuse“, especially those committed by members of the institution, after stating that “It’s not enough to ask for forgiveness.”
“THE The Church cannot try to hide the tragedy of abuse, whatever it may be. Nor when the abuses take place in families, in circles, in other types of institutions”, underlined Francisco, who during his pontificate approved various initiatives with the aim of putting an end to cases of abuse by the clergy.
In the last monthly video with his prayer intentions, the Pope specified: “Apologizing is necessary, but it is not enough. Apologizing is good for the victims, but they need to be at the center of everything.”
Furthermore, the Supreme Pontiff underlined that “their pain, their psychological damage can begin to heal if they find answers, concrete actions to repair the horrors suffered and prevent them from happening again”.
For Francis “the Church must be an example to help solve them, bring them to light in society and in families” and “it is the Church that must offer safe spaces to listen to the victims, accompany them psychologically and protect them”.
The pope’s videos are an initiative born during this pontificate, whose goal is to disseminate the pontiff’s monthly prayer intentions and is developed by the World Prayer Network.
