Unusual candies can be bought at the ice cream parlor “Eiscafe Rino”, by Thomas Micolino, in Rottenburg am Neckar.

Micolino is known for creating flavors that are far removed from the preferences of most Germans, such as strawberry, chocolate, banana or vanilla.

He offered liver sausage and gorgonzola ice creamas well as ice cream covered in a thin layer of gold for 4 euros ($4.25) per serving.

“I’m a very curious person and I want to try everything,” Micolino told the Dpa news agency. “I ate many things, even strange things, and I wanted to try the crickets even in the form of ice cream,” he said about his new exotic ice cream flavor.

It can offer cricket flavor because a European Union standard allows the use of insects in food.

Under that rule, cricket can be frozen, dried or powdered. The EU has already allowed the use of migratory locusts and meal beetle larvae as additives.

Some people feel disgust or anger at the new flavor, however, most of the customers who dared to try it are it turned out delicious.

«Those who try it are very enthusiastic», said Micolino, and closed: «I have customers who come every day to eat a portion».
