While the Russian army is trying to occupy the Bahumut region, which is evaluated as an important strategic point in eastern Ukraine, the most elite armored units of the Russian army refused the order to advance from the upper level.

On the 6th (local time), according to the Ukrainian local media Kyiu Post, the 155th Naval Infantry Brigade, the most elite of Russia, stopped their advance towards the village of Buhledar, south of Bakhmut. The unit suffered heavy losses at the mine-laden intersection until recently.

It is said that the commanders of the unit are refusing an order from the top to break through the anti-tank minefields laid by the Ukrainian army. The unit has lost around 130 tanks and armored vehicles in skirmishes with Ukrainian forces over the past few months. Most of the troops, which were considered elite, were filled with recruits brought in under the mobilization order of the Russian government.

Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, who decided that Bahumut could be controlled only by occupying Buhledar, ordered commanders to occupy it, even though the unit suffered heavy losses.

A spokesperson for the Ukrainian Armed Forces said, “The commanders of the 155th Brigade are refusing orders from above to advance. It is because they are not well prepared, but the Ukrainian military is thoroughly prepared for defense, and it is virtually difficult to carry out the order to attack Ukrainian positions.”

In Vuhledar, where the Ukrainian and Russian forces are fighting fiercely, Ukrainian forces have significantly strengthened the defense line by distributing 7,200 anti-tank mines supported by the U.S. with howitzers. The Russian army is advancing with armored equipment as it lacks sapper equipment capable of removing mines.

British military expert Justin Crump said, “It is a sign of insanity to repeat the same attack and hope for a different result.”
