The United States has approved a nasal medicine that relieves headaches in 15 minutes

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved Pfizer’s new nasal drug on Friday against migrainethe company announced in a statement.

The medicine, Zavzpretis the first to use the nasal spray route of application to relieve the most common symptoms of migraine, such as headaches or sensitivity to light.

“Zavzpret’s FDA approval means a major breakthrough for people with migraines who need pain relief and prefer alternative options to oral medications,” Pfizer Chief Commercial Officer, Angela Hwang.

The drug showed in phase 3 trialsreduce pain in just 15 minutes and completely eliminate the most annoying symptoms of the disease in two hoursthe company assured.

Although patients in clinical trials generally showed good tolerance to the compound, 2% of those who received it had side effectssuch as taste disturbances, nausea or vomiting.

In an interview with the EFE news agency, the doctor specializing in migraine Franchesca Fiorito Torres explained that Pfizer’s new drug could be a great option for people who feel nauseous or vomit taking oral medications.

Fiorito-Torres clarified that “in the world of migraine there is room for everything”, but ventured that the nasal method will eventually become the normas it causes the drug to peak faster, although it has not yet been compared to other migraine medications.

According to Pfizer data, migraine affects approximately 1 billion people in the world and nearly 40 million Americans, mostly women, who are three times more likely to suffer from it than men.

Of these, around 60% experience nausea and vomiting during migraine attacks.
