A female elementary school teacher in her 30s who won the ‘Teacher of the Year’ award was charged with sexually harassing her students.
According to local media such as the LA Times and the New York Post on the 10th (local time), Jacqueline Ma (34), a teacher at Lincoln Acres Elementary School in National City, southern San Diego County, California, was arrested by the police on the 7th.
Teaching 5th and 6th graders at this school, he was charged with 7 counts of possession of child pornography, 4 counts of child sexual exploitation, and 2 counts of sexual intercourse with children.
The day before Ma’s arrest, the police launched an investigation after receiving a report from a parent who said, “I’m afraid that my 13-year-old is having an inappropriate relationship with a teacher.”
Ma was imprisoned following his arrest, but was released on bail. However, a quick investigation by the police later yielded additional evidence and charged her with a felony.
Police did not disclose details of the alleged crime committed by Ma given that the victim in the case was still a minor. In this regard, NBC7 obtained San Diego County Sheriff’s Department records and said that Mark had sexually obscene acts, such as physical contact with children under the age of 14.
Education Commissioner Ray Hangala Brady said it was shocking and said, “We will cooperate with the investigation and try to find a teacher to replace Ma.”
Meanwhile, Ma is one of five students who received the ‘Teacher of the Year Award’ selected by the San Diego County Department of Education last August. In his public profile at the time, he earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in education from UC San Diego.
Ma, who has taught at the National City School District since 2013, said, “I consider my relationship with students to be my greatest achievement.”
In particular, Ma was also evaluated for being enthusiastic about online classes held amid the Corona 19 incident last year. Parents, who thought he had a great relationship with his students, were astonished.
However, some parents are said to have suspected that Ma contacted the students too often and displayed excessive intimacy. She is scheduled to appear in court on the 14th.
