The Battle for Bakhmut: The war in Ukraine falls into the underground corridors of a metallurgical company

The battle for the Ukrainian city of Bakhmut in the eastern Donetsk region has become The biggest so far in the Russian war in Ukraine and in which both sides suffer significant losses every day, a fierce struggle which now has its center in the north-west of the city, where the Vostokmash factoryAll in all AZOM metallurgist.

The Ukrainians finally surrendered, in one of the most dramatic events of this year-long war, on February 24th. About 21 civilians died.

Bakhmut and the AZOM plant

Now, according to express.co.uk, Western intelligence has indicated that Ukrainian forces have strengthened their defenses in the AZOM to lure Wagner’s mercenaries fighting for Russia in a protracted siege.

But Russian spokesmen indicate otherwise. Even Ukrainian soldiers admit the dramatic hours they live.

The bitter fighting at Bakhmut has been described as “worse than Stalingrad” in the harrowing video testimony shared by what appears to be a Ukrainian soldier.

The Ukrainian military is fighting to drive out Wagner’s Russian mercenaries from the northern suburbs of Bakhmut, including the formidable metal factory that the Kievan forces intended to use it as a fortress.

In a combat video, a Ukrainian infantryman talks about the ongoing clashes with Russian Wagner fighters that have taken place within the AZOM metallurgical complex while gunfire and explosions are heard in the distance.

“The Plant Will Fall Soon”

The leader of Russia-imposed Donetsk, Denis Pushilin, assured on Tuesday that the factory, located in an industrial area north of Bakhmut, it will soon fall into the hands of the Wagner mercenary group.

“There are premises that the factory will be soon it will be under the full control of the private military company Wagner“Pushilin said, according to the official TASS news agency.

But he admitted it for now “The situation remains difficult.”

The Vostokmash factory is located on the territory of the AZOM metallurgical enterprise, where the Wagner fighters, according to their own statementsthey took “favorable positions” last weekend.

Hours earlier, the Wagner Group itself had assured that it had “taken control of Vostokmash” and published on its Telegram account photographs in which mercenaries presumably lay inside the factory.

According to the Telegram channel “Military Chronicle”, currently at least 300 Ukrainian servicemen remain in the Vostokmash basements.
