It has been reported that Iranian police detained teenage girls for dancing in public for 48 hours and made them film an apology video.

According to foreign media such as the US Business Insider on the 14th (local time), teenage girls were arrested by the police for posting a video of them dancing to the songs of famous American singer Selena Gomez on the social media TikTok in the suburbs of Tehran, the capital of Iran.

In the video, Iranian girls took off their hijabs and wore cropped tees that showed their navels.

In Iran, women who dance in public or do not wear a hijab are subject to crackdowns by the religious police.

The girls are believed to have performed as part of an anti-hijab protest on International Women’s Day (March 8).

The video spread rapidly through social media. In response, the Iranian police identified the whereabouts of the girls through closed circuit (CC) TV video analysis, etc., and then arrested the girls and detained them for 48 hours.

The girls were forced to film an ‘apology video’ while covering their heads with a hijab at the place where the video of the dancing was filmed under the force of the police.

As soon as the fact became known, a wave of support continued on social media, such as uploading a video dancing to Selena Gomez’s song. In addition, the voice of the international community is growing that it is urgent to improve the human rights situation of women in Iran.

Meanwhile, in Iran, anti-government protests have continued in recent months in the wake of the ‘Mahsa Amini case’, in which Iranians were arrested and killed for not wearing a hijab.

Iranian women continued their anti-government protests, such as burning hijabs and marching in the streets, but the momentum was lost as the authorities suppressed tens of thousands of protesters.
