Lazarus is a representative hacking organization in North Korea and is known to be involved in Sony Pictures of the United States in 2014, the hacking of the Central Bank of Bangladesh in 2016, and the distribution of WannaCry ransomware in 2017.

In particular, the report said, “In 2022, the Security Threat Information Center was reported on 331 attack attempts against 137 organizations.” Runt Tribe 4.5%, Gamaredon 3.6%, Ocean Lotus 3.3%, etc.”

Kimsuki is a North Korean hacking organization that specializes in collecting information related to diplomacy, security, and unification.

The report said the Chinese government and defense and military industries were still the main targets of international hacking organizations in 2022, followed by technology, energy, finance and trade, media and other sectors.

The report also introduced specific hacking methods by another North Korean hacking group, APT37, explaining that they had been active in hacking activities in China over the past year.

According to this report, it is analyzed that North Korean hacking organizations are boldly attempting hacking attacks against China, their ally.

Rachel Baek, a researcher at CRDF Global, a private research institute in the US, told RFA, “China is an ally of North Korea, but hacking groups like Lazarus cannot be an exception because when they set traps, they target all computers with specific vulnerabilities.” “Attacks by North Korean hacking organizations do not discriminate against specific countries and target all computer systems with vulnerabilities,” he added.
