Slovakia cedes Soviet fighter jets to Ukraine
The Slovak government this Friday approved a plan for hand over its fleet of MiG-29 fighter aircraft to Ukraine from the Soviet era. It is the second NATO country to comply with Kiev’s insistent requests for aircraft to help in its defense against a Russian invasion.
In his announcement, Slovakian Prime Minister Eduard Heger said his executive was “on the right side of history”. He had earlier tweeted that military aid was vital to ensure Ukraine could defend itself and all of Europe against Russia.
Russia accuses NATO of being involved in the war by supplying fighter jets to Ukraine
The Kremlin has accused NATO of becoming increasingly involved in the conflict in Ukraine by announcing the advance supply by Poland and Slovakia of MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine.
“This is another example of how various member countries of the Atlantic Alliance are increasing their level of direct involvement in the conflict,” Dmitri Peskov, the presidential spokesman, said in his daily telephone press conference.
Peskov warned that within the framework of the Russian military campaign in Ukraine “all this military equipment must be destroyed”.

The office of the President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, “is already at work” to prepare a possible meeting with the Chinese leader, Xi Jinping, who next week will travel to Russia on an official visit to meet Vladimir Putin.
“Preparations are underway for the conversation of the president, Volodimir Zelenski, with the Chinese leader, Xi Jinping,” the office of the Ukrainian president reported on Friday in a short message collected by the Ukrainska Pravda media.
