International Criminal Court (ICC) issued this Friday a arrest warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin for his actions in Ukraine.
Preliminary Chamber II of the ICC issued the arrest warrant for Putin for considering him allegedly responsible for war crimes such as deportation and illegal transfer of population from occupied areas in Ukraine to Russia.
The ICC reported that “the crimes were allegedly committed in the occupied territory of Ukraine at least from 24 February 2022“.
And he continues: “There are reasonable grounds to believe that Mr. Putin has individual criminal responsibility for the aforementioned crimes, for having committed the acts directly, jointly with others and/or through others and for not having exercised adequate control over the civilian and military subordinates who committed the acts”.
The ICC also issued an arrest warrant for Maria Alekseyevna Lvova-Belova, Commissioner for Children’s Rights at the Office of the President of the Russian Federation, on similar charges.
“Pretrial Chamber II found, based on the prosecution’s requests dated February 22, 2023, that there are reasonable grounds to believe that each suspect is responsible for the war crime of illegal population deportation and illegal transfer population from occupied areas of Ukraine to the Russian Federation, to the detriment of Ukrainian children,” the International Criminal Court said in a statement.
