A two-year-old girl died from the terrible blows suffered by her father and partner. The case generated a tremendous impact, verifying that the minor had 59 wounds throughout her body. The biological father and stepmother of the child they had gone to the hospital, with the excuse that Kenya had “fallen”. Both were arrested accused of murder and torture against Kenya Gabriela Oliveira Matos.
The girl’s biological mother assured that she had not seen her daughter for a year and learned of the child’s death “on television”. So said Izabela Oliveira Matos, 27, before the local justice.
The woman also recalled not seeing her daughter after the minor’s father stopped providing information on Kenya’s whereabouts.
Kenya’s father and stepmother were arrested in the act on Thursday (9). Marcos Vinicius Lino has denied the attacks and says everything “is a mistake”. Patricia André Ribeiro says her stepdaughter was injured “falling”.
Izabela’s statement came Saturday (11) hours after her daughter was buried in the Santa Cruz Cemetery, also on the west side.
Izabela said in the statement that “when the minor was about three months old, She was entrusted to the care of her father Marcos Vinícius, with whom she lived for about 4 months”.
The seller recalled that the decision was motivated by depression and economic problems and that “for this reason she believed that leaving Kenya in the care of her father would have been the best solution, since it could have guaranteed a better quality of life for the minor”.
The woman stressed that “while she was in a relationship with Marcos, he was never aggressive and that he was always aware of his daughter’s care.”
Also in Izabela’s testimony, she said that “it had been agreed with Marcos that he would denounce his daughter’s routine, as well as not take her away from the girl’s socialization.” Izabela maintained that “in the first two months, Marcos respected the agreement, informing him of everything that was happening in her daughter’s life.”
However, he says that “after these two months, it became difficult for Marcos to live with the girl” and that it had been a year since he had contact with his daughter or Marcos.
Izabela de Oliveira Matos also said she believes Patricia “had a hard time getting close to her daughter.” Since, according to the seller, Kenya’s father’s current partner was jealous of the child’s mother.
The seller claimed that since she lived in Pavuna, in the North Zone of Rio, 50 kilometers from where her daughter lived, “I didn’t even know what was happening in the girl’s life” and that she only learned about the death on television.
Doctor’s complaint
The case was discovered after Dr. Ana Cláudia Regert examined the girl at the Hans Jurgen Fernando Dohmann family clinic in Guaratiba.
It was she who ascertained that it was not just any injury and that the girl was already dead when she entered the health ward.
“When they saw me in a lab coat, they started yelling that I wasn’t breathing. I took the girl out and went into the unit to evaluate. She was already passed out, in a cadaverous state, which shows that, in my opinion, a lot of time had passed, not minutes, as they had reported,” said Ana Cláudia.
The doctor says that she tried to revive the girl anyway, without success, and that at that moment she realized what had happened in Kenya.
“When we stretched him out and stripped him to begin the maneuvers, it was clear these were injuries that didn’t just happen yesterday.. These were things that had been going on for a long time. There were burns, probably from a cigarette, on the navel, the genital area was altered, there was an anal fissure, many bruises on the body of a 2-year-old and 4-month-old girl,” she recalls with emotion.
Ana Cláudia pretended to continue taking care of the minor and she ran to the police station to report her father and stepmother.
The medical report confirmed that Kenya Gabriela presented 59 injuries to the whole body, mainly to the face and abdomen, as well as signs of sexual abuse. The bruises, old and new, revealed a routine of physical assault and abuse at home.
