A South Korean military source announced that North Korea is holding a military parade in a show of strength to commemorate the 90th anniversary of its military, which is considered a landmark event in the country today.
According to this source, the parade marking the anniversary of the founding of the Korean People’s Revolutionary Army started at 22:00 local time (GMT) at Kim Il Sung Square in the capital Pyongyang.
The nuclear-armed communist government often celebrates special dates or commemorations with large military parades that begin with military parades led by infantry marches, followed by armored vehicles, and eventually culminating with missiles that Pyongyang is boasting.
Observers often keep a close eye on these events to learn about the latest North Korean weapons developments.
North Korea has held only three nights of military parades in recent years, and state media only covered the events the next day. The Monday night parade was also not announced by the local media.
Pyongyang conducted more than ten weapons tests this year, including the first full-range intercontinental ballistic missile launch since 2017.
