An 82-year-old woman from Virginia, USA, has entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s oldest female ice hockey player.
According to the New York Post on the 18th (local time), Linda Shinrod, 82, of Lawton, Virginia, is the world’s oldest active female ice hockey player. Linda is a former college figure skater who is active in the women’s ice hockey league.
In an interview with the media, she said, “I was always curious how old the women’s hockey players are older than me, because I’ve always been the oldest.” I checked the Guinness World Records to do it,” he said.
Linda was a former college figure skater, but never skated after graduation. But since then Linda started playing ice hockey at the age of 35 with someone’s attempt at a lake she visited to skate her after a long time. From then until now, Linda’s love for her ice hockey has continued.
Linda’s passion for ice hockey led her to being a founding member of the first women’s ice hockey team in the Washington, DC area. Everyone on her team was more than 10 years younger than Linda, but she didn’t give up.
After 10 years of stellar performance on the local women’s ice hockey team, Linda felt her stamina hit her limits and retired with a promise to return when she turned 50.
After retiring, Linda couldn’t forget the skating rink where she played and decided at the age of 67 to join the ‘Prince William Wildcats’ team, coached by a former teammate.
Ice hockey, which was challenged again at the age of 67, was not easy. “Coaches tried to break me because everyone else was 20 years younger than me, but I wasn’t easily beaten,” Linda recalled. Linda played for the team for over seven years, but the team coach urged her departure, saying that the late Linda was not useful to the team. After she was kicked off to another team, Linda gave her a fresh start in the new women’s league.
Given the new opportunity, Linda did not give up her passion as a player and began to do her best. In addition to regular ice hockey practices and drills, Linda worked on her fitness by lifting weights twice a week and riding her bike three times a week.
As a result, Linda was able to play as a professional ice hockey player until the age of 82 and entered the Guinness Book of Records as the world’s oldest female ice hockey player. When asked how she felt about becoming the world’s oldest women’s ice hockey player, Linda said, “Everything I do for ice hockey is the driving force of my life. I’m glad,” she said.
