“With this agreement, the JIT and the prosecution send a clear message that every effort will be made to gather evidence of the major international crimes committed in Ukraine and bring those responsible to justice,” the European agency headquartered in The Hague said.

Karim Khan visited the Russian-occupied city of Bucha two weeks ago (according to Kiev) where hundreds of civilian bodies were found killed by the Russians.

“Ukraine is a crime scene. We are here because we have good reason to believe that crimes within the jurisdiction of this court have been committed,” Khan told reporters during his visit.

Russia denies responsibility for Bucha’s deaths.
