Korea’s happiness index, lowest among OECD member countries… Which country is number 1?

The subjective ‘happiness index’ of Koreans was found to be 57th out of 137 countries in the world. Finland has been ranked as the happiest country for the sixth year in a row. Japan ranked 47th and China ranked 64th.

Korea ranked 35th out of 38 countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

According to a CNN report on the 20th (local time), the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) published the ‘World Happiness Report’ (WHR) on the 20th, the ‘International Day of Happiness’ designated by the United Nations.

This report is prepared by analyzing data from the annual survey on subjective well-being (SWB) conducted by the Gallup World Poll (GWP) in different countries every year.

Since the ranking is based on data from the three years immediately preceding the survey, this year’s report used survey data from 2020 to 2022.

In this year’s report, the average score of self-rated subjective happiness by Koreans was 5.951 out of 10.

A number of Nordic countries occupy the top of the overall ranking.

Based on this year’s report, Finland ranked first in happiness (7.804 points). 1 in the world for 6 consecutive years.

It is followed by Denmark (7.586 points), Iceland (7.530 points), Israel (7.473 points), Netherlands (7.403 points), Sweden (7.395 points), Norway (7.315 points), Switzerland (7.240 points) and Luxembourg (7.228 points). , New Zealand (7.123 points) ranked 2nd to 10th.

Austria (7.097 points), Australia (7.095 points), Canada (6.961 points), Ireland (6.911 points), USA (6.894 points), Germany (6.892 points), Belgium (6.859 points), Czech Republic (6.845 points) ranked 11th to 20th. ), the UK (6.796 points), and Lithuania (6.763 points).

In Asia, Singapore (6.587 points, 25th), the United Arab Emirates (6.571 points), and Taiwan (6.535 points) ranked the highest at 25th to 27th. Saudi Arabia (6.463 points, 30th place), Bahrain (6.173 points, 42nd place), Kazakhstan (6.144 points, 44th place), Japan (6.129 points, 47th place), Uzbekistan (6.014 points, 54th place), Malaysia (6.012 points) , 55th) was also higher than Korea.

Among the 137 countries surveyed, the country with the lowest happiness score was Afghanistan (1.859 points). Almost all of the lower ranks were underdeveloped countries.

Russia, which has been at war since last year, ranked 70th with a score of 5.661, and Ukraine ranked 92nd with a score of 5.071.

Among the 38 full member countries of the OECD, only three places had lower happiness scores than Korea: Greece (5.931 points, 58th), Colombia (5.630 points, 72nd), and Turkey (4.614, 106th).

On the other hand, comparing before and after the COVID-19 outbreak, the percentage of the world as a whole that does ‘good deeds’, such as showing kindness to strangers, making donations, or volunteering, has increased considerably.
