‘Fake news’ about the arrest of former US President Donald Trump, who is on the verge of prosecution for charges such as ‘silencing sexual scandal’, is spreading.
On the 22nd (local time), foreign media such as the Associated Press reported that photos of former President Trump being arrested by New York police were spreading through Twitter.
The photos are diverse, including former President Trump running away from the police and eventually being arrested and resisting strongly.
Images quickly went viral online with “Breaking News. Trump was arrested in Manhattan this morning.”
However, these photos are fake images created by artificial intelligence AI. The person who planned it is Elliot Higgins, a British journalist and owner of the online media Bellingcat.
Higgins used Midjourney, which generates images with the Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) algorithm. It is a technology that creates realistic photos by entering the desired scene as text.
Hagins explained that he entered text such as “Trump Falling and Arrested,” “The Golden Ratio,” and “News Footage.”
He said, “It was a kind of parody,” and “to show how realistic the manipulated AI image is.”
“Some images have three Trump legs. “I thought people would realize this fallacy, but some people believed it to be real,” he said. “It shows a lack of critical thinking skills in our education system.”
Currently, AI depicts it almost realistically, but it also shows errors when implementing complex parts such as fingers.
Former President Trump is suspected of manipulating the books after paying a settlement with company money to hide the fact that he had sex with a porn star right before the 2016 presidential election. In addition to these allegations, he is also being investigated for taking out classified documents from the White House and inciting the 2020 congressional riot.
The New York prosecutors, who have virtually finished the related investigation, are considering whether to prosecute former President Trump.
In response, former President Trump is stimulating his supporters by defining the New York prosecutor’s office as a political prosecutor and claiming that he can be arrested sooner or later.
