Wayne Swannyfounding member and guitarist of American rock band SalivaHe died at the age of 59.
The sad news comes hours after the band revealed Swinny had been in intensive care since Tuesday afternoon after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage.
“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Saliva guitarist Wayne Swinny,” a rep for the band said in a statement published by TMZ.
“Wayne passed away this afternoon from a spontaneous cerebral hemorrhage during the tour.”
Swinny was one of founding members of Saliva, in 1996. The original lineup consisted of vocalist Josey Scott, drummer Todd Poole, bassist Dave Novotny and guitarists Chris D’Abaldo and Swinny.
The band gained popularity in 2001 when two songs from their album Every Six Seconds, “Click Click Boom” and “Superstar”, appeared on the first episode of the movie “Fast & Furious”.
His third album Back Into Your System brought success number one Billboard Modern Rock Tracks with “Always” before the band becoming a regular feature on American wrestling promotion company WWE between 2007 and 2010 as the official soundtracks for some of their main events.
Former WWE superstar Batista, who has since become a Hollywood actor, has used Saliva’s “I Walk Alone” as his entrance music since 2005. The band’s music has also been used as background music for various commercials . Playstation 3.
Singer Josey Scott, who left Saliva in 2011 after 15 years, paid homage to Swinny on Instagram by sharing a photo together.
“I am speechless. Just the love, the little moments and looks we share, just between us and the fans, on stage, backstage, all over the world, that no one will ever know. Playing and writing music with a man like Wayne Swinny, as long as we’ve been doing it, in all these places we’ve been, it’s very intimate. It was a love we shared together, and I will go into eternity holding on to that love and those memories. Forever #TheToxicTwins,” Scott wrote on his IG account.
Bobby Amaru, who replaced Scott as singer, told TMZ: “I’m not even sure what to think or how to feel right now.
“My heart aches for the Wayne family., his friends and anyone who has had the joy of being close to him. My heart aches for your daughter Nikki. He loved that girl so much… He went out of his way to make sure you enjoyed yourself. I am grateful to have been able to share nearly 12 years of my life with Wayne on stage and more importantly off stage. God bless you Wayne, we’ll meet againAmaru stated.
The band noted that “details of funeral arrangements will be announced shortly,” before adding “We love you Wayne.”
